Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi starrer Vikram Vedha, a neo-noir thriller, was one of the most successful Tamil films last year. In the film, directed by husband and wife duo Pushkar-Gayatri, Madhavan plays an encounter cop while Vijay Sethupathi plays a gangster.
At the trailer launch of his upcoming web-series Breathe, Madhavan confirmed that the remake of the blockbuster is on the cards and it will happen this year. However, the actor refused to comment on whether he will repeat his character in the remake and said it’s too early for him to talk about the lead actor who will be reprising Vijay Sethupathi’s role. “We want someone who can give us dates and have an enormous market”, said Madhavan.
It was earlier reported that for the Hindi remake, the actor had approached Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who initially seemed interested. But later, that plan was put on the back burner.
It’s an edge-of-the-seat thriller based on the mythical tale of King Vikramadityan and the demon Bethal. It's an exploration of the grey space between good and evil. The film, which released on July 21, was displayed in over 350 screens in Tamil Nadu. It witnessed 90% occupancy in theatres on its opening day and collected Rs 50 crore by August.
The film is about an encounter specialist Vikram played by Maddy and a gangster Vedha played by Vijay Sethupathi. Produced by Sashikanth under the banner Y Not Studios, the film has Shraddha Srinath, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Kathir in crucial roles. Sam CS had scored music for this flick with PS Vinod cranking the camera and Richard Kevin editing it.
Meanwhile, Madhavan is all set to make a comeback in Tollywood with Naga Chaitanya's Savyasachi, a thriller film directed by Premam director Chandoo Mondeti. This will be Madhavan’s first Telugu appearance in a full-length role. He has played a cameo in 2010 Telugu film Om ShantiSavyasachi marks the second collaboration of Mondeti and Naga Chaitanya after last year’s Premam.
