Nigeria’s homegrown movie industry, Nollywood, has made amazing
strides in recent times. Nollywood filmmakers, producers, actors, and
actresses have gone from just making basic home movies to brilliantly
putting together big budget cinema projects.
While we are happy that we get to enjoy the amazing talent of our
local stars, this year we would like to see them shine on the world
stage. Here are six Nigerian actors we believe are ready to take on
Hollywood.
6. John Okafor
Comic Nigerian actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, would
make a brilliant addition to Hollywood’s comedy division. The
57-year-old actor, whose scenes have become a regular in viral Nigerian
videos, has been cracking us up for the years and we think its time the
rest of the world got in on the joke.
5. Mercy Johnson
Nigerian actress, Mercy Johnson, has starred in more than a fair
share of Nollywood projects. She also has a couple of awards to show for
her colorful career. We have seen Mercy take on both serious and comic
roles over the years and we believe that she swim well with the big
fishes in Hollywood.
4. Odunlade Adekola
Before you turn up your nose or make a funny face, consider these
facts. Odunlade has transitioned quite seamlessly from the Yoruba movie
industry to the Nollywood industry. He is also an internet sensation,
being one of the more popular meme personalities. He has a notable
following and an unending supply of funny faces. Imagine Odunlade and
Kevin Hart in a buddy Hollywood movie. You are welcome.
3. Toyin Abraham
This 33-year-old Nollywood actress has shown that she is not only a
skilled actress but also a brilliant filmmaker, producer, and director.
The movie industry is a very wide playing field and with the range of
talent that Toyin harnesses, she would definitely make a name for
herself in the Hollywood industry.
2. Richard Mofe – Damijo
Richard Mofe – Damijo is one of the most respected names in the
Nigerian entertainment industry. RMD is able to portray each role he is
given with so much finesse and ease that we are surprised he has not
made his Hollywood debut yet. We can already see everyone’s favorite
zaddy taking on a serious role and making Hollywood where he has been
all this time.
1. Adesua Etomi
Nigerian actress, Adesua Etomi has had a gracious and consistent rise
to the top of Nollywood’s industry. Adesua is definitely ready for the
big lights of Hollywood given the fact that she has experience not only
acting movies but also, acting in television shows and even theatre.
Let’s not forget that Mrs. W. has first class honors with triple
distinctions in drama and performance from the University of
Wolverhampton. Before becoming a first-class performer, Susu bagged a
diploma in physical theatre, musical theatre and performing arts from
City Coventry.
